The Brian J. Honan Charitable Fund was established to carry on Brian’s commitment to the causes that he championed throughout the course of his life. Money raised through the Brian J. Honan 5K Road race benefits the Scholarship funds of the Allston Board of Trade and the Brighton Board of Trade. The Race also benefits the Honan family’s charitable fund. With funds raised from the Brian J. Honan 5K the Charitable Fund has been able to aid and foster local and national programs that support education, recreation, housing and healthcare. The family-friendly run/walk will welcome everyone from competitive runners to friends of the beloved councilor onto a newly configured flat and fast USA Track and Field certified course for a sanctioned race that covers just over 3 miles of Allston-Brighton. Participants will start from The Kells of Boston at 161 Brighton Avenue in Allston Village, pass through historic Union Square and onto Cambridge Street towards picturesque Brighton Center on Washington Street. The race continues past Brighton Center on Washington Street, U-turning at Fairbanks Street for the run back. After passing by Boston’s District 14 police station, runners will begin the last leg and complete the 3.1 mile course at the Kells. Water and timing stations dispersed along the course will provide runners with the edge needed to run a personal best, or the extra boost required to help in finishing off a good jog for a great cause. |
