Letter: Brian's extraordinary leadership will live on forever
Friday, June 10, 2005

It was a beautiful day last Saturday, June 4, at the dedication ceremony for Boston City Councilor Brian J. Honan Park, and I am sure that angel Brian J. Honan was looking down from heaven saying "a job well done." For Brian's dedication the weather was fantastic. The temperature range was in the mid-70s with a clear blue sky and a sniff of breezes constantly rotating.

As I arrived at 300 Allston St. for the Brian's Park dedication, I was greeted by the most gracious greeting. Brian's mother and a couple of her friends met me as I entered the premises. Mrs. Honan introduced herself and welcomed me most graciously. I was most grateful.

The dedication of Boston City Councilor Brian J. Honan Park coincided with Mr. and Mrs. Honan's 50th anniversary. The weather held up as a perfect day for a perfect dedication. There were gracious speeches and acknowledgements of the many dignitaries. Both mayoral candidates were present at the dedication. Mayor Thomas M. Menino was the key speaker, and his opponent, At-Large City Councilor Maura Hennigan and challenger for the mayor's seat, was present at her best. I believe Brian would have been very pleased with the turnout and success of the gathering.

The park will serve as a testament to Brian's extraordinary efforts on behalf of the Allston-Brighton community, as everyone was aware that Brian was a strong supporter and advocate for open space and green space, and the park can serve as a reminder to Brian's efforts. Brian's extraordinary leadership is a testament that all good public servants desire and subscribe for.

While I didn't serve on the Boston City Council with Brian, I did serve in the state Legislature with his brother, Kevin Honan, the state representative who currently represents the Allston-Brighton area. With other representatives at the State House, Kevin is also another excellent public servant. I was very much aware of Brian's extraordinary efforts on behalf of the Allston-Brighton community and thank Brian for his past efforts, and may God forever keep him.

In ending this writing, I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Honan for their graciousness and thank Kevin and the rest of the Honan family for being such an excellent host and showing such gracefulness. Once again, I thank the host for keeping Councilor Brian's extraordinary leadership well and alive.
